051: My Life Governing Values

My Life Governing Values

In today’s post, I speak my life governing values.  The values that govern my everyday life allows me to live a focused lifestyle.

My life governing values are the standards I set for my life.  They help me to live a more balanced life.

I first learned about the importance of establishing a set of life governing values in 2004.

After reading a book by Hyrum W. Smith, 10 Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management, I decided to follow his instructions and create my very own life governing values.  Since then I’ve updated them based on how my values have changed over the years.
Listen in below…

What are some of your life governing values?

047: Brand Where You Want To Go NOT Where You Already Been

Brand Where You Want To Go NOT Where You Already Been

Become vocal about where you want to go in your industry.  Speak about the opportunities you’re seeking and the people you want to connect with.

Talk about experiences you’ve had that relates to where you want to go.  Show your expertise in the areas you want to be known for.

Otherwise, you risk building a misunderstood and misguided brand.  Brand Your Future. Brand Your Vision.  Or you’ll get more of what you’ve already gotten instead of what you actually want.

When in Doubt, Share Value

If you are ever at a loss for words or direction, focus on solving problems.  This may include someone else’s material you’ve found.  If it offers value to  your audience, don’t hesitate to share it.

Pass along opportunities that you think your audience would appreciate, and point people towards helpful resources.

Friends and followers will quickly identify you as someone who always has something of  value to offer.

045: Reach the Social Media Sweet Spot

Reach the Social Media Sweet Spot

There is a fine line between that perfect mix of spices and being too salty if you follow what I’m saying.

In other words, in your marketing efforts mix your accomplishments and personal interests, plus a dash of your sizzling personality but avoid offering too much information.

TMI (too much information) can ruin a presentation.  Promote your brand in bite-size pieces.

043: Cite your Accomplishments NOT your Responsibilities

Cite your Accomplishments NOT your Responsibilities

Communicate the projects you’ve worked on, skills you’ve acquired, and the accomplishments you’ve achieved.  Avoid speaking about responsibilities you’ve held or currently hold.

Responsibilities communicate what you have to do and not what you get to do.  Responsibilities are not distinctive enough; and rarely communicate your work ethic, skill level, talents and abilities that allow you to stand out.

041: Resist the Urge to Overshare

Resist the Urge to Overshare

Avoid talking too much about yourself.  Make it your aim to inform people and highlight your accomplishments but don’t be an open book.

Leave some information out.  You don’t want people to feel like there’s nothing else they can learn about you.

Keep an air of mystery about yourself that will open the door to future conversations.
